Lifetime: A Storage Shed For The Beach And Your Boat

Let’s see.

There is scorching sunlight, wind, salt, sand, rain and the occasional bout of hail in the summertime.

If you live in the Northeast or Northwest, you can also add in snow, sleet and ice for the wintertime.

Round out the equation with the fact that your kids will be even more destructive than the totality of all the foregoing natural events and you wonder how on earth a storage shed can last for even a month at the beach.

Such was the context of a recent call that we had with one of our customers.  This customer wanted to keep all of his family’s boating and swimming gear in a storage shed that would be located on a small dock that jutted out into Long Island Sound.  The customer had a Boston Whaler, a Sunfish, a dinghy and (according to him) every conceivable floating object ever invented that could drag kids behind a powerboat.  Add to that the life jackets for his kids and their friends, masks and snorkels, fishing gear, beach chairs and umbrellas as well as random aquatic “stuff” of every shape and size and, well, I am sure you get the picture.

The customer had some specific requirements for his storage shed.

1) The shed had to be long enough to store the sunfish and the dinghy in the off season

2) The shed had to be as maintenance free as possible

3) The shed had to be lockable at night during the Summer and throughout the off season

In particular, this customer was interested in the following two plastic storage sheds.

The Lifetime 11x18.5 Storage Shed w/ 9’ Door immediately appealed to the customer because this plastic storage shed was more than long enough to store both his Sunfish and his dinghy during the off season.  Also, with a 9’ door opening, transporting equipment into and out of this shed would be an effortless task. The ample windows in the doors on the gable end of the shed were a positive attribute as there would be plenty of natural light in this plastic shed and the customer liked the fact that the door could be padlocked.  Best of all, the UV-protected, high density polyethylene walls of this plastic shed would stand-up to sun, salt and winter elements with minimal maintenance required.

The customer was also interested in the Lifetime 11x21 Storage Shed.  Again, this plastic storage shed had plenty of depth to accommodate both his Sunfish and dinghy as well as every item of gear that was related to his boats and his family’s beach and fishing activities.  Minimal maintenance and the ability to combat the elements was also a key item in favor of this plastic shed.  The customer faced an interesting conundrum as regards the lack of natural light that would find its way into this shed.  On the one hand, it would be a dark space during the summer.  On the other hand, breaking into this shed and peeking inside at its contents would be difficult during the winter.

Although we would never disclose a customer transaction, it is interesting to note that the customer ultimately made his decision based on which plastic storage shed he felt would best survive the onslaught of his kids and their friends!
