Sheds: The Forgotten Dimension

Don’t forget the size of the door!

We receive numerous customer inquiries every day regarding every imaginable aspect of owning and maintaining a garden shed or a storage shed.

Does a garden shed have a floor?

Do we need a concrete slab or can we build a storage shed on a crushed stone surface?

Can we store things in the rafters of our shed?

There are truly as many questions regarding the purchase of a shed as there are customers that search our website.  That being said, it is the rare customer indeed that inquires about the specs of a garden shed door or a storage shed door.

Why does it matter?

If you are in excess of 6 feet tall, bending over to enter a 5 foot doorway can be trying.  If you have a wide piece of machinery such as a sit-down lawnmower, squeezing through a narrow doorway can be an invitation to a backyard fender bender.  Size does matter, especially for a doorway.

So, we have some suggestions for you:

The 15 x 8 Lifetime Garden Shed is a very popular shed that maximizes its door height with a side entry and a gable above the doorway itself.  The door dimensions of this shed are 56” wide by 76” high.  Granted, this width will clearly not accommodate a large 60” sit-down lawnmower, for instance, and even a smaller 48” sit-down lawnmower will be a tight fit for just about any operator.  But, this shed was not designed as a storage shed.  This shed was designed as a garden shed and it is meant to cater solely to the needs and comfort of you, the gardener.  A door height of 6’ 4” is clearly suitable for most of us who garden as a hobby and hopefully this generous height will be convenient for you.

On the other hand, the 11 x 11 Lifetime Storage Shed is an attractive storage facility that has enormous carriage style doors with a 9 foot entrance span.  The largest household item imaginable can be driven, rolled or carried through these doors with ease.  Add in the fact that these doors are 6’ 6” high and you have an enormous portal through which you can move just about anything on your property that has to be stored.  Finally, the ample windows in this storage shed provide plenty of natural light and the ceiling vents provide necessary ventilation for effective storage.

Don’t bend down to enter your garden shed.  Don’t scratch the sides of your storage shed door.  Choose a door height and door width that is appropriate for your shed needs.

We also invite you to look at the many fine garden sheds and storage sheds that are produced by our other suppliers, including Arrow Sheds, Duramax Sheds, Lifetime Sheds, Suncast Sheds and others.
