Frequently Asked Questions for Arrow Storage Sheds
Why should I purchase a metal storage building?
Metal storage buildings are the most economical form of storage compared to wood, plastic, and monthly rent.
What tools do I need to assemble the building?
A #2 Phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers, work gloves, and a stepladder. However, a magnetic tip cordless screwdriver will speed up assembly time by 40%. Two people are also recommended. Do not assemble the building on a windy day.
What kind of foundation do I use?
The key to a successful installation is to make sure the building is assembled on a square and level surface. You have three choices - pour a concrete slab, build a wood deck/floor, or use an Arrow Floor Frame Foundation Kit which assembles in minutes and provides a floor frame suitable for a plywood floor finish (finishing materials not included).
Do I need to anchor my building?
Yes! Your storage building must be anchored to prevent possible wind damage. Arrow offers a ground anchor kit, (AK4), which has 4 heavy-duty ground augers, cable, and clamps. Also available is an AK100 concrete anchor kit and the AK600 is perfect for smaller and sloped roof style Arrow buildings.
Are the instructions easy to follow?
Each part is identified with a factory number. The instructions contain a drawing and an assembly illustration of each step. Read the manual before beginning. Call 1-800-851-1085 ext. 1 if a part is missing or damaged. It is very helpful to completely unpack the shipping carton and lay out all the parts for easy identification.
Are all supplies and parts included in the carton?
Everything is packed in the box except three (3) elements:
- The necessary tools to assemble the building
- A floor (floor frame kits sold separately)
- And an anchor kit. (sold separately)
Can the building be painted?
The buildings can be painted with an exterior grade paint designed for use on metal. A good exterior latex paint following paint manufacturers recommendations will work fine.
What is meant by nominal size?
Nominal size is the roof edge dimensions rounded to the nearest foot. Always check the interior dimensions and recommended foundation size as these are smaller than the nominal size.
How long will it take to assemble the building?
There are too many variables which make it difficult to calculate the amount of time needed to assemble the building. However, you should plan to devote a full day with another person as a helper to assemble the building after you have selected and constructed the foundation.
What Gauge of steel are Arrow sheds?
Gauge of steel: We don't go by the gauge but metal thickness. The following indicates the metal thickness of our buildings: Wall panels are .0088, metal frames are .0190 and door panels have metal thickness of .0141. The VT 14x21 and VT 14x31 has a different thickness. Walls are .0141, metal frames are .0230 and door panels are .0160.
What is the Snow Load of Arrow sheds?
Snow load on all buildings: Roof live load is 10 lbs. per square foot. However, if a customer installs the Roof Strengthening Kit, the roof live load will increase to 15 lbs. per square foot.
Can I modify the storage shed at all?
No, we do not recommend drilling or modification to the units. We offer shelving kits as accessories and the kits come with instructions.
Are the buildings 100% water-proof?
We cannot guarantee the floor will never leak, but assuming the building is on a level and raised wood platform or concrete slab, caulking can be used to decrease water from entering at base area. We suggest using a good G.E. silicone caulking.
Can your storage sheds be taken apart and reassembled?
We do not recommend taking the building down and re-installing.
Are these storage sheds well ventilated?
All of our buildings have ribs on the wall and roof panels which allow for ventilation.
What is the different between electrogalvanized steel finish and vinyl coated steel finish?
Both are electrogalvanized steel with a baked on finish. One has baked on polyester and the other has baked on vinyl coating. The vinyl is thicker and more flexible.
*The Arrow Group customer service department has available, upon request, samples of the painted steel. Call 1-800-851-1085 ext. 1.
