When do you know as a prospective customer that you have asked a good, if not outstanding, question?
Typically, it is when your exploratory phone call goes something like this:
Storage Sheds Outlet: Hello, this is Storage Sheds Outlet. How can
I help you?
Prospective customer: Hi, I have a question about xxxxx and xxxxx.
Storage Sheds Outlet: Ummm (long pause) Uhhhh
Prospective Customer: Hellooooo. Is anyone there? What kind of
website is this?
Storage Sheds Outlet: I'm here and that is a very good question!
We like good questions, by the way. We want to know what we don't know and we won't know what we don't know if prospective customers don't ask.
A customer called the other day with what we thought was a very good question. He inquired very matter of factly as to whether a certain vinyl storage shed in which he was interested could be bolted to the ground.
I was prepared to launch into my prepared spiel about hurricane force winds and nuclear catastrophes when the customer said he was simply concerned about the possibility that someone might cart his storage shed away in the dark of the night. It was an interesting question and, quite frankly, we had never been approached with a query as to whether any of our storage sheds could be protected against theft.
The shed in question was the Duramax Yardmate 5x5 Vinyl Shed. A smaller storage shed, the customer intended to store his lawnmower and leave blower in this Duramax Yardmate Shed. We called Duramax directly to get their very informed take on this issue.
The product manager explained that the smaller Duramax storage sheds did not come with anchor kits or earth anchors that could secure the storage shed to a concrete pad or the ground itself. The product manager did provide some helpful insight, however, as follows:
- Do not attempt to cut a hole through the vinyl floor of a Duramax storage shed (or, presumably, any model storage shed) to utilize jury-rigged ground anchors as the holes may actually weaken the structure of the storage shed itself;
- Generic anchor kits and earth kits are available on the market that can be applied to just about any storage shed regardless of size, make or shape; and,
- Perhaps most interesting of all, the product manager made a very pragmatic observation that a properly assembled smaller storage shed can weigh close to 250 pounds without any contents.
In fact, the Duramax specs indicate that the very popular Duramax Yardmate 5x5 Vinyl Shed weighs 183 pounds once assembled. Add in the weight of a lawn mower and a leave blower and you have a fairly heavy structure that would hopefully thwart the efforts of even the most ambitious purloiner.
Facts and circumstances vary, of course, and it is clearly possible that the weight of a storage shed alone may not be a sufficient deterrent to theft. If that is the case, we suggest that you consider an alternative shed such as the Arrow Brentwood Storage Shed 5x4 with the optional Arrow Sheds Concrete Anchor Kit or Arrow Sheds Corkscrew Anchor Kit.
One question we can answer is that there is indeed a storage shed for every situation and every concern and we look forward to providing you with insight into the storage shed that is just right for you.
